About Winterton Acres

For years John Berger and his wife Barbara have fielded inquiries from people who admire their gorgeous property and desire to use it as the setting for a wedding or a photo shoot.  The horses, pond, and barn of this sprawling 21-acre horse farm are inviting.  Its simple elegance seems to create the perfect destination for a special occasion.

 When it came time for John’s brother to get married, there was no doubt where the big day should take place.  The wedding was a huge success.  The food, the atmosphere, and the location all came together to create a magical night for the bride and groom.   After that night, John and Barbara thought, we could (and should) do this again!   They began partnering with Aliza Lazio an Art Director with a passion for creating special events and Winterton Acres was born!

In 1991 John Berger purchased 21-acres of beautiful land and began building his legacy.  Every detail of this family-owned farm was hand-crafted by the owner.  When a friend bet him that training horses was something John would enjoy, he gave it a try and found his future.

In 1995 John Berger Racing Stables was established.  John has been boarding, breeding and training racehorses ever since.  His life’s work is something he wants to continue for a lifetime, a legacy that will continue through the generations.

At the heart of the farm, is family.  It has always been John’s desire to create a place for his beloved family to come home to; a place where they can stay connected and continue strengthening their bond.  It has been a special place where memories were made and they are delighted to help others create some magic of their own at Winterton Acres.

Winterton Acres is conveniently located just 5 minutes from Route 17 at Exit 116 in Winterton, NY.  If you plan to travel by train, we are 3 minutes away from the Otisville station off of the New Jersey Transit Port Jervis Line.

The Hudson Valley is home to craft breweries, wineries, antique shops, cozy B&Bs, quaint boutiques and wide open spaces with plenty of parks to explore.  History buffs will love our historic homes and museums.  Shoppers can spend the day at nearby Woodbury Common Premium Outlets or have fun exploring the many antique shops or take a stroll through Sugar Loaf Craft Village.  Adventure seekers can spend their days hiking, kayaking, canoeing or rafting.  Foodies will love the farm stands and farm to table restaurants tucked into the surrounding villages.  Plus, Orange County is home to America’s oldest winery along with six others, several breweries as well as Angry Orchard.  Not to mention, the Casino at Empire Resorts Catskills is but fifteen minutes away.
